Collaboration with fellow teachers now possible on The Archive for Education
28 Sep 2023September is in full swing, which means school bags are getting heavier and schools are filling up again. To keep up with the latest developments in the world of education, we are continuously improving our education platform. And a new school year always brings new possibilities on The Archive for Education. This year, we are focusing on sharing information, collaboration and additional useful filtering options.
On The Archive for Education, teachers and trainee teachers can search specifically for a wealth of visual and audio clips from our content partners, specially selected to enhance their lessons – allowing them to build lesson collections and create assignments in secondary education to sharpen their students’ digital skills.
New: sharing and collaboration
Users of The Archive for Education have long been requesting more sharing and collaboration on the platform. And, thanks to support from Ben Weyts (the Flemish Minister for Education) and the Flemish Department of Education and Training, this has now become a reality!
Teachers can now invite colleagues to view and edit their teaching materials, allowing them to collaborate on building collections or assignments for secondary students and streamline their lesson preparations. This is ideal for effective subject group work, co-teaching and interdisciplinary projects. It also means they can inspire other users on The Archive for Education by making their teaching materials public for everyone to access.
Smarter filtering
To find suitable clips even faster and provide more lesson inspiration, The Archive for Education has expanded its search function this academic year. Teachers can now filter more precisely based on the desired level of education and theme for their lessons. This improvement has been made possible thanks to the metadata reworking that we have carried out on our educational platform, with support from VLAIO (Flemish Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship), as part of the innovation initiatives in secondary education.
The search function previously allowed users to discover public collections from other users and our editorial team. Now, in addition to that, you can also find student assignments. Our editorial team has curated a series of inspiring sample assignments to showcase various active teaching methods and encourage teachers to incorporate them into their lessons.
User-friendly login
Having a central login is crucial in today’s world where teachers and students often utilise multiple online platforms. With The Archive for Education, secondary education students can conveniently use their LeerID from the Flemish government to log in. Teachers can use itsme, eid or a digital key, eliminating the need for a separate password to access our educational platform. This allows them to seamlessly switch to other platforms without the hassle of signing in again.
The single sign-on access and the further development of ‘sharing and collaboration’ on The Archive for Education are part of Digisprong and the Flemish government’s Resilience Recovery Plan, made possible with support from Ben Weyts (the Flemish Minister for Education) and the Flemish Department of Education and Training.
