Digisprong at school? The Archive for Education gets on board

20 Jan 2022

Teachers, schools and other educational institutions in Flanders have moved mountains to improve their digital organisation over recent years. But compulsory education still has some catching up to do in terms of digitalisation. The Flemish Minister for Education, Ben Weyts, is therefore investing heavily in the Digisprong initiative for schools – an ICT strategy to provide high-quality digital education – set up by the Flemish Government as part of its Resilience Recovery Plan. Our educational platform is helping to advance this digital leap forwards.

With The Archive for Education, we have an important role to play in the digital transformation process in our schools. We’re working hard every day to provide high-quality audiovisual archive content, and supporting teachers with easy-to-use digital teaching resources and free workshops.

As part of the Digisprong initiative, the Flemish Department of Education and Training has allocated €512,000 for the continued development of The Archive for Education. We will use these recovery funds to further support digital teaching in the period 2021-2024. Specifically, we want to research and develop additional features, and are focusing on three main areas:

  • promoting the sharing of information between teachers;

  • reinforcing collaboration and the exchanging of resources between educational platforms;

  • new teaching methods to promote blended learning (link in Dutch).

We’re also helping to work on the development of a single sign-on infrastructure set up by the Flemish Government. This will enable teachers and students to use a single central account to register for various educational platforms, including The Archive for Education. A huge leap forwards!

The continued development of The Archive for Education is part of the Digisprong initiative and the Flemish Government’s Resilience Recovery Plan, and is being made possible with support from the Flemish Minister for Education (Ben Weyts) and the Flemish Department of Education and Training.

Meemoo is also involved in other projects in the Flemish Government’s Resilience Recovery Plan, including the GIVE projects, the integration of Flemish heritage databases and supervising cultural organisations in their digital collection registration projects.
