A double triumph for the GIVE project
13 Dec 2023Proud moment! This year, the GIVE project has clinched awards for the second time. On Thursday 7 December, we were honoured with not one, but two awards from Agoria. The Gecoördineerd Initiatief voor Vlaamse Erfgoeddigitalisering (GIVE – ‘Coordinated Initiative for Flemish Heritage Digitisation’) was selected as the most innovative in its category. And, to top it off, we also secured the prestigious award for the best eGov project. This draws two years of collaboration, digitisation, metadata enrichment through artificial intelligence (AI) and more to a spectacular conclusion.
Together with over 175 partners, we dedicated two years to making a wealth of heritage materials more accessible, searchable and reusable through digitisation and metadata enrichment. In digital form and with enhanced descriptions, more people can now discover our Flemish heritage.
Securing two Digital Society Awards highlights the significance and innovative edge of this large-scale initiative, but collaboration was also a key element. Meemoo’s digitisation manager, Loes Nijsmans, encapsulates this with some poignant words
I would like to extend a huge thank you to all our partners, as this would not have been possible without them. There are 175 of them – no small number – from the industrial sector, as well as from heritage, culture, IT and so on. We could never have achieved this success without their contribution.'
The GIVE projects have been made possible thanks to support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and are part of the Flemish Government’s ‘Resilience Recovery Plan’.
