VIAA wins prestigious international prize with

25 Oct 2019 was chosen as an Archive Achievements Awards 2019 winner by FIAT/IFTA, the worldwide association for television archives, on Thursday 24 October in Dubrovnik. The prize was awarded in the ‘Excellence in Media Preservation’ category, which honours initiatives that use original methods to safeguard audiovisual content for future use. can be used to identify your (old) audiovisual carriers, and find out how you can continue listening and viewing the content on them digitally in the future. More than 2000 carriers have been identified via the platform since its launch in October 2018, by users from over 80 countries.

VIAA was nominated alongside the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision with ‘Give us the GIFs: Crowd-Curating Iterative Born-Digital Heritage at Scale’ and Swiss Radio Télévision Suisse with ‘Artifacts detection by AI: Quality Check of video files from mass digitization’.

The Archive Achievement Awards are organised by FIAT/IFTA (International Federation of Television Archives) ‘to honour outstanding archival initiatives and projects that have improved significantly the ways in which the archives are preserved, managed and used.’ This is the first time a Belgian/Flemish project has won the award.
