CEST: the cultural heritage standards toolbox

Does your cultural heritage organisation manage a digital collection? Then you’ll know for yourself that various guidelines and standards have been formulated for creating, editing, describing, managing, storing and providing access to digital heritage collections. But knowing which standards have priority can be a challenge.

Meemoo (PACKED at the time) and eDAVID vzw therefore set up CEST between February and September 2010, on behalf of the Agency for Arts and Heritage. We regularly add new information to the wiki platform, which anyone can consult.

The cultural heritage standards toolbox (CEST) guides you through how to apply standards when creating, managing and providing access to digital heritage collections. On this wiki, you can find:

  • Guidelines on the best standards for a specific digitisation process;

  • A register for standards applicable for the digitisation of cultural heritage;

  • A register with an overview of software packages and other tools for creating, editing, describing, managing, storing and publishing your digital heritage;

  • An overview of publications to help you apply standards, guidelines and software in practice;

  • A list of specialist digitisation and cultural heritage terms.
